In An Inspector Calls J.B. Priestley has a message to deliver, what :: English Literature
In An Inspector C wholes J.B. Priestley has a message to take over, whatis this message and how does he deliver this message? In the play An Inspector Calls the playwright John BoyntonPriestley, uses truly people in artificial situations to create thewell-rounded performance, he does this so effectively because thepeople of the time could relate to these situations, setting and theissues raised still could also place themselves in the play with to each oneperson in the audition becoming an actors. We are constantly kept on the edge, neer knowing what to expect next.He does this by using many entangled dramatic devices in order to givethe correct information to the audience and actors and deliver it withpinpoint timing. In this family situation the quizzer is able to ascertain it by knowing the significant weaknesses and personalitiesof the individual family members. He shows the family cannotcommunicate with each other when put in a tense or vile situation. One of the devices he uses is the constant use of midget climaxes wherethe audience see they bring forth found the major culprit then the lineof interrogatory jolts off into another direction this makes the play bothcaptivating and interesting. This is shown in the way it holds theaudience all the way through, building up easily with peaks, gatheringthe complex plot as it goes along, then finally ends in a stunningclimax with a twist. Throughout the play the inspector is extractingsmall threads of information from each member of the family and slowlyinterweaves the small threads to form one big picture, once thepicture is make the audience can narrow it down to the main culpritthis acts as the first conclusion of the play, but once the audiencehave realised that there isnt one culprit but instead the wholefamily are guilty for her death this really drives the message home. The inspector uses a painting very cleverly because the familybelieve that the inspector is showing the same pictures to ev eryone,as an alternative these could be pictures of different people. Afterthe inspector has carried out all his investigations the family issplit into two sections, one being the people who are dispirited for allthe hurt and pain they have caused, these are the people that havetaken in Priestleys and the inspectors message, the socialists. Onthe other hand the other collection are the elders that are stuck in thereold fashioned ways and believe that society functions better asindividuals and not a aggroup these are the people that Priestley isrebelling against, the capitalists, the money driven people who dont
